TRU biology professor Rob Higgins and 50 other insect specialists from around the world spent two weeks collecting insects in the jungles of Malaysian Borneo last summer.
In his presentation at the Scout Island Nature House, this coming Tuesday, Higgins will share his adventures, brushing back scorpions and hiking through jungles to collect some of the most bizarre and fascinating ants in the world. The presentation starts Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m.

salutes volunteers
The Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Volunteer Appreciation Day, Wednesday, Feb. 23 at the Tourism Discovery Centre from noon to 3 p.m.
All people who volunteered in the community are invited to attend, enjoy hot dogs and a celebration cake and share their stories, and enter to win one of the draw prizes.

Museum open house
The Museum of the Cariboo Chilcotin is featuring a special display next week to celebrate Heritage Week in B.C. that runs from Feb. 21 to 27.
The theme this year is A Century of Conservation: Parks & Cultural Landscapes.
The museum will have an open house on Saturday, Feb. 26 with free admission 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The display features the history of four major parks in the city Boitanio Park, Stampede Park, the Williams Lake River Valley and Scout Island Nature Centre.
Sunday, Feb. 27
Parade of Choirs
The 4th annual Parade of Choirs is coming up Sunday, Feb. 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Cariboo Bethel Church.
Five choirs will be featured. The event is sponsored by the Cariboo Men’s Choir and Hough Memorial Society. Admission is by donation to raise funds for cancer detection equipment for the hospital.

Lorne Dufour at

The Williams Lake Branch of the Cariboo Regional Library is pleased to announce an author reading and interview with local author Lorne Dufour on Friday March 11, 2011.
Dufour will be reading from his latest book Jacob’s Prayer, as well as participating in a question and answer period with the audience.
Jacob’s Prayer chronicles Dufour’s own experience living in the Alkali Lake Reserve during the 1970s, when the Alkali Lake community was transformed by the efforts of Chief Andy Chelsea and his wife Phyllis.
