Actor and motivational speaker, Duane Howard will give a workshop at Toosey on June 8.

Howard speaks to his past of drug and alcohol addiction and how he changed his life to become a successful actor, says Sarah Jackman, executive director of the Punky Lake Wilderness Camp Society which is sponsoring Howard’s visit.

Howard is best know for his rolls in Dominion Creek and more recently in the Oscar winning movie The Revenant.

“Howard prides himself on not pulling any punches in his workshops and his positivity,” Jackman says.

The workshop will take place at the old school training and recreation complex at Toosey from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

She said Howard is essentially coming to host a workshop with student groups from around the Chilcotin but the event is also open to the public.

She asks that schools and adults wishing to attend the workshop to call society office to register so that they can plan accordingly for seating and food. The office number is 778-412-9536.

“I’m excited about the day,” Jackman says. “I think the more positive experiences we can bring to the youth of the nation, the more likely it is that they discover something that ignites a passion in them and helps them to move forward in a positive way.”

She said Toosey’s health director Teresa Johnny met Howard at an event she attended and asked the society if they could bring him to their community.
