The first in a series of multicultural events in Boitanio Park last week offered a little taste of India.

The Harmony Swirls event took place in the hour or so before the regular Performances in the Park concert Thursday, Aug. 4.

Visitors were offered a free cup of chai tea, tasty Indian snacks and the opportunity to visit and try their hand at Rangoli (sacred chalk designs) and Ras-leela (folk dancing in a circle of love).

Hosted by CMHA Multicultural Program co-ordinator Meera Shah, the event was a fitting lead up to the concert which was to feature the music of the lakecity’s Perfect Match, followed by noted sitar player Mohamed Assani.

Unfortunately a fierce thunder, lightning and rain storm blew in half way through The Perfect Match performance and the concert was cancelled out of safety concerns before Assani could take the stage.
