‘Hippity-hoppity Easter’s on its way’ was one of the themes at the recent spring break frolic in the public library

The Williams Lake library welcomed more than 60 children under six during spring break for a morning of lively entertainment and activities. Library staff Tracy Dunlop and Joyce Martin, with intern Laura Brown and volunteer Stephanie Dunlop were joined by Claire Schreiner from Cariboo Partners for Literacy and LeRae Haynes from Success by 6.

There were puppet shows about know-it-alls, a confused Easter Bunny and a poofy pink pig wearing a feather boa. Tracy shared a delightful story about signs of spring and provided an Easter craft, and LeRae played guitar and sang silly, fun songs with the kids about the usefulness of your body parts and about what a pet needs to be happy.

“Kids can have all kinds of fun, singing, clapping, laughing and making lots of noise when it’s a special kid’s day at our library,” Joyce Martin explained.

She added that there are lots of cool programs for kids to do at the library. “Drop in anytime to play board games,” she suggested. “Join the chess club, the Red Cedar Award book club or sign up to play Wii. Story time is full of good stories, singing, crafts and of course, lots of laughter and fun.”

The spring break event in the library was a big success, according to Joyce, who said that the kids enjoyed it all, from the misplaced, hilarious March Hare to the ‘Bunny Hokey Pokey’ song and barking up a storm in ‘Bingo.’

“We had a ‘hopping’ good time,” she said. “Each child went home with a goodie bag, balloons and a smile on their face!”
