The Fish Lake Alliance raised $4,000 Friday, July 19 at a fundraising event at the Limelight Theatre, to help pay for expert witnesses attending the New Prosperity environmental assessment hearings that began this week in Williams Lake.

About 100 people attended the event that featured musician Brent Morton and hand-drummers led by Cecil Grinder, Yunesit’in Chief Russell Myers, and Former Xeni Gwet’in Chief/now band councillor, Marilyn Baptiste.

The funds were raised by a silent auction, a loony auction, and donations.

The Council of Canadians and the ad hoc support group, Fish Lake Alliance hosted the event.

Auction items included truckloads of firewood, books by local authors, original paintings, a 100-year-old pocket watch, carpentry services, resort accommodations, yoga sessions, and more.
