Since purchasing Cariboo Propane a year and a half ago, co-owner Lucas Nelson has watched the business expand.

“When we bought the business there were only two trucks. Now we have four trucks, four drivers and two gas-fitters,” says the 25-year-old, adding he owns the business with his father, Scott Nelson, who has been in the propane industry for 30-plus years.

“We saw an opportunity to grow the business and took a chance and have taken it to a good level.”

While growing up in Williams Lake, he worked alongside his dad and said today they continue to enjoy a good working relationship.

Cariboo Propane was originally started by Stuart Graham in 1991 in Quesnel.

Today the company services and delivers throughout the Cariboo region from Hixon in the north to 70 Mile House in the south, to communities in the east such as Horsefly and as far west as Nimpo Lake with competitive rates.

“We try to have the best customer service going,” Nelson says. “Anything we can do to help we always try to if we can and hopefully have a solution.”

With a main headquarters in Quesnel at 1410 Cariboo Highway and an office in Williams Lake at 1125 Highway 97, Cariboo Propane offers residential and commercial services, propane tank fills, RV appliances and barbecue sales.

Nelson notes propane prices follow gas prices, although not as expensive, and increase when the price of a barrel of oil goes up.

“It’s high right now but we expect it to drop - we hope.”
