The Williams Lake Youth Soccer Association’s Soccerfest scored big with participants this past Saturday, April 8 when they hosted camps and clinics at the Esler Sports Complex.

Three different camps were offered. The first, held in the morning, was for kids six to eight years old, the second was for kids aged nine to 11.

“Both of these camps focused on basic soccer skills and gameplay and kids were split up into even groups and rotated through different stations,” one of the coaches, Curt Levens said.

Also held was a goalkeeper camp open to all ages where they worked on goalkeeping fundamentals.

An Active Start coaching clinic, meanwhile, was offered where 25 volunteer coaches got their active start coaching certificate to coach the younger age groups.

Tyler Judd held an injury and concussion prevention session which several coaches and parents took part in.

“Youth soccer executive members were on hand all day to talk to parents and answer any soccer-related questions that came up,” Levens said.

“The U14 girls rep team provided free babysitting all day so parents could drop off their younger children to take part in the coaching session or go to watch their other kids take part in the soccer camps.”

Draw prizes were  given out throughout the day and Subway provided lunch to all participants and volunteers.

“It was a great day,” Levens said. “Even the weather co-operated. The entire day was free for everyone and was organized and sponsored by Williams Lake Youth Soccer.

“Williams Lake Youth Soccer would like to say thank you to all those who took part and a huge thank you to all the volunteers who helped out, especially our amazing group of volunteer coaches who ran the soccer and goalkeeping camps.”
