United Carpet capped off an undefeated regular season with a playoff championship in the Williams Lake Men’s Futsal League.

United Carpet downed Celtic Engineering 4-1 in Tuesday night’s championship game at the Lake City Secondary School gymnasium.

Rick Heal got the ball rolling for United as he slammed in a rebound from a Mike Brogan blast to put his side up 1-0.

Just before halftime United netminder Brent Gardner jumped into the attack and his blast from just over centre found the corner to double their lead at 2-0.

Sean Glanville scored midway through the second half on a long shot from the wing to put United up 3-0, before Jake Walsh got one back for Celtic with a hard shot through traffic to cut the deficit to 3-1, but Curt Levens tallied late in the game to put the final touches on the 4-1 victory.

United’s toughest contest came a week earlier in the playoff semifinal when they needed a shootout over Storm to advance.

Storm jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Justin Foster, however, Brogan scored to knot things up at 1-1. In overtime Glanville scored the go-ahead goal for United only to see Oliver Hitch answer for Storm with two minutes remaining to knot it up at 2-2 to force penalties.

In the shootout, Glanville, Brogan and Levens all scored from the spot with Gardner making a critical save to give his side the win.

In the other semifinal Celtic downed Blue United 7-5. Celtic were led by a pair of goals from Rory Fogarty with Derek Funk, Darryl Taylor and Walsh also finding the back of the net for the winning side.

Luke Moger led Blue with a pair of goals and Mike Holm and Quinton Klopp also chipped in with a goal a piece.
