Slo-pitch league set to host icebreaker tournament this weekend

The Williams Lake Slo-Pitch League is in full swing for its icebreaker tournament this weekend.

Ball season is underway for the Williams Lake Slo-Pitch League, which will host its annual Icebreaker Tournament Friday, May 5 to Sunday, May 7.

Regular season games began last week, and league president Linda Barbondy said the WLSPL is completely full with 30 teams split up into six-team divisions including A, B, C, D and E divisions.

“The fields are looking great,” Barbondy said. “No snow and not wet. They are looking really good.”

This weekend’s Icebreaker Tournament will feature the majority of the WLSPL’s local teams competing.

Then from June 23-25, the league will host its Overlander Pub Fundraising Tournament, before the year-end tournament slated to run from Aug. 16-21.

Barbondy said the WLSPL hosted a work bee two weekends ago at the Esler Sports Complex slo-pitch fields where more than 120 people showed up to help get the facilities ready for the year.

“Thank you everyone that showed up and helped get our fields ready to start the season up,” she said.

Barbondy noted if teams and players are looking for more information about the season they can visit and join the league’s Facebook page by searching “Williams Lake Slo-Pitch League.”

“It’s going to be a busy year,” she said. “And you can’t complain about that.”
