The Rowdies avenged an early-day loss to Sox ‘n’ Friends to become the Williams Lake Slo-Pitch League Icebreaker Tournament champions.

The double-elimination tournament saw Sox ‘n’ Friends upend the Rowdies Sunday morning, before the Rowdies battled back to the championship by defeating the Rookies in the tournament’s ‘A’ division semifinal, then downing Sox ‘n’ Friends in the rematch for the title Sunday afternoon.

The Rowdies took an early advantage in the contest, however, Sox ‘n’ Friends made it interesting in the seventh and final inning to pull within two runs in the narrow 13-11 defeat.

League president Linda Barbonday, and also the coach of the Rowdies, said Sunday’s weather was a nice change from Saturday, where they saw snow at the ball diamonds at the Esler Sports Complex on four separate occasions.

Third place in the ‘A’ division went to the Rookies.

In the ‘B’ division it was the Brew Jays with a 17-5 victory over Highlife in the championship, while Cowboys and NDNZ brought home third.

The ‘C’ title went to the Broke Millionaires in a narrow 14-11 defeat of Esketem. Poppin’ A Homer placed third.

On the ‘D’ side Tolko T’s won an 18-10 decision over the DQ Y Nots, with Relations coming third.

First place teams won Miken bats in each division, second brought home softballs and third won score books.

Next up for the Williams Lake Slo-Pitch League will be its annual Overlander Pub Fundraising Tournament from June 23-25.
