This year’s third annual Boys and Girls Club of Williams Lake and District Race for Kids is coming up Saturday, June 3 where participants are required to complete a number of fun challenges throughout the city. Registration is currently underway at www.raceforkids.ca/williams lake.

The wildly popular Race for Kids is coming back for another urban adventure challenge in the lakecity this summer.

The Amazing Race-style event for adults put on by the Boys and Girls Club of Williams Lake and District will take place Saturday, June 3 and all proceeds go the organization and help benefit kids in the community.

Stefanie Hendrickson, operations co-ordinator with the BGCWLD, said registration is currently underway and she’s encouraging as many people to sign up as possible.

“It’s going to be similar to the last two years,” Hendrickson said. “This is our third annual and it’s our largest fundraiser of the year.”

Hendrickson explained the Race for Kids is for adults 18 years and older who will compete as teams of four.

“Participants will receive a clue sheet and they’ll have to solve 10 clues which will lead them to 10 different locations in town, and once they get to those locations they’ll have to complete a small five- to 10-minute challenge and then move on to the finish line,” she said.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers, along with the top individual fundraiser, the best dressed team and the best effort team.

First place will receive four $200 gift certificates to Red Shred’s Bike and Board Shed, second will win four $100 gift certificates to Sport Chek, while third will take one ‘a night on the town’ including gift certificates to the movie theatre and bowling alley, and to a local restaurant.

This year, Hendrickson said Tolko has jumped on board as the title sponsor for the event.

“We’re looking for teams to make it a really fun and successful event,” she said. “Our number last year was around $20,000 raised going to our Williams Lake programs.”

The event will begin starting at 9 a.m. with registration in Herb Gardner Park, before participants will take off from the starting line at 10 a.m.

“We try to do new checkpoint locations — change it up a bit so now teams have an unfair advantage if they’ve participated before,” she said. “It’s just a really fun, team-building event for a group of friends or a group of co-workers.

“The event has been really well received in the community so we’re really excited to be able to offer it again and it’s really something that is unique to Williams Lake.”

Any teams wishing to register can do so at www.raceforkids.ca/williams lake.

The cost is $10 per participant and there is a $360 fundraising minimum per team.
