Northern Wolfpack cart home gold from Canada Cup West

Four lakecity girls skated to a gold medal with their Northern Wolfpack teammates in Kelowna.

Four lakecity girls skated to a gold medal with their Northern Wolfpack teammates May 12-14 in Kelowna in the U8 division at the Canada Cup West.

Neen Suapa, Devony Michel, Rees Overton and Tessa Chabot joined a group of other players born in 2008 from Quesnel, Prince George, Smithers, Vanderhoof and Prince Rupert to form the team.

After falling 2-1 in overtime to the U8 Prospects from the Lower Mainland the Wolfpack went on to win its next two round robin games against the Okanagan All Stars, 6-4, and the U8 All Stars of Kamloops, 5-0.

The semifinal saw the Wolfpack pitted once again against the Okanagan All Stars were they handed them a 12-0 drubbing to reach the championship.

There, in a rematch with the U8 Prospects, the Wolfpack claimed the gold medal in a 3-2 thriller with Williams Lake’s Suapa scoring the game winner with just 12 seconds remaining.
