May Long Fishing Derby continues throughout the weekend

Carter Zappone, 10, was the first to weigh in his 3.6-pound lake trout Saturday at the annual May Long Weekend Fishing Derby.

The event on Quesnel Lake, which continues until May 22, will see the biggest char haul in $1,000 for the lucky catch. The five biggest fish will net winners cash, there are great raffle prizes to be had and, in all, more than $3,000 will be doled out in winnings.

Weigh-ins are taking place at Cedar Point Park with boat access only.

Weigh-in times Sunday are from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m., while Monday’s weigh-in times go from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Prizes will follow.
