More than 200 cars, trucks, motorcycles, tractors and more graced the streets of downtown Williams Lake Sunday for the Lakers Car Club’s 23rd annual Show and Shine.
“It was a beautiful day,” said Lakers Car Club president Sam Schellenberg. “Any time you get more than 200 cars it’s an awesome day.”
He said cars came from as far away as Terrace, and even several from Washington.
“We had cars from all over the province and the U.S.,” he said.
“Vehicles ranged from just your every day average car to $250,000 Daytona Superbirds. The owners came from Washington and have a friend in the car club so they come here to support him.”
He added the turnout from the community was phenomenal, and that 90 people enjoyed a dinner Saturday evening at the Ramada Hotel.
“The poker run was great and the cruise was cool (Saturday),” he said. “We went out on South Lakeside Drive and then around to Retirement Concepts so they could all see the cars.”
He added a special thanks to all the business and community support.
“A lot of these people come from out of town,” Schellenberg said. “They stay in hotels and spend money in town so it’s great for the city.”
Also new this year was a silent auction held on Third Avenue by car club members.
Jackie Ruyter, who was a volunteer car club member working the auction, said it was a big hit.
“The businesses were very generous in their support for the car show,” she said.
Money from the silent auction will be used for an automotive machine bursary and a heavy duty mechanic bursary at Lake City Secondary School.
“Thank you to everyone who supported this cause,” she said.
