Falcons take silver at girls rugby provincials

The Lake City Falcons girls rugby team brought home silver at the B.C. High School Girls ‘AA’ Provincial Championships in Abbotsford during the May 24-27 weekend.

During the first day, the Falcons saw success during the first day in a 48-34 win over Merritt. Scorers were: Madison Blusson with two tries and a penalty try, Emma Feldinger with three tries and three conversions, Carrie Lange with one try, and Jade Meldrum with one try.

On day two the Falcons again found Victory against Valleyview from Kamloops in an outstanding 51-5 victory. Scorers were: Madison Blusson with three tries, Emma Feldinger with two conversions, Katelynn Hill with one conversion, Jade Meldrum with two tries, Kay-Cee Sapp with two tries, and Cassidy Wiggins with one try.

On day three the Falcons fell short in a gruelling match against Abbotsford. Although they lost 41-10, they put up a fight.

Scorers were Katelynn Hill and Jade Meldrum, both with one.

For the Grade12s Katlyn Berkelaar, Gina Davis, Carrie Lange, Rikki Laviolette, and Celina Moore, this was their final high school rugby game. They are all ecstatic to finish their senior years with silver.

“I am so proud of our team for how well we did and I am honoured to have gotten second with all these girls in my last year of high school rugby,” said team captain Gina Davis.

The rest of the roster included girls from Grade 8 to 11 and three girls from various towns.

This included Grade 11s Blusson, Naomi Bonner, Alyssa Burns, Feldinger and Livi MacDonald.

In Grade 10 was Cassidy Wiggins. Grade 9s were Dusti Bonner and Cambria McGregor.

Grade 8s were Whitney Ash, Katelynn Hill, Jade Meldrum, Rosy Salazar, Kay- Cee Sapp and Taya Sepkowski. The three imported girls were Taylor Binns, Grace Pontius, and Alicia Sorken.

Carrie Lange is a player for the Lake City Secondary School Falcons girls’ rugby team.
