The Lake City Falcons senior girls rugby team is going to the 2017 Provincial Rugby Championships in Abbotsford May 24-27.

The Falcons took home first place in the North Zone following a successful outing in Prince George during the weekend to earn the berth.

“We had to play both PGSS (Prince George Secondary School) and Dawson Creek,” said Falcons head coach Morley Wilson.

The Falcons played Dawson Creek first, winning 24-7.

First-half try scorers were Gina Davis and Emma Feldinger, with Feldinger adding two conversions.

Dawson Creek then scored seven points to end the half, before Madison Blusson and Feldinger closed out the scoring for the Falcons in the victory.

Next, versus PGSS, Wilson said the Falcons were dominant.

The first three tries were scored by Grade 8 player Jade Meldrum, Rikki Laviolette and Blusson, while Feldinger connected a conversion.

In the second half tries were scored by Davis, Kay-Cee Sapp, two in a row by Carrie Lange and a final try from Katelynn Hill for a 49-0 win.

Wilson noted the 2018 high school rugby provincials will be hosted in Williams Lake.
