The Lake City Falcons seven-a-side junior and senior boys rugby teams got their first taste of competition of the season this past week.
The Falcons travelled to Burns Lake Friday, Oct. 5 for a one-day tournament featuring teams from Prince Rupert and Burns Lake.
The junior Falcons, taking on Prince Rupert in its first game, marched away with a 25-5 victory.
Shayle Stemple scored twice in his first game for the Falcons after a pair of 40-metre runs.
Single tries were scored by Dave Hance, Tim Pitt and Paul Roy in the winning effort.
Next, the junior boys took on a combined Prince Rupert/Burns Lake team.
Falcons coach Todd Pritchard said it was there where Lake City found its form, running in eight tries: two from Alex Kaufman, two from Sione Masui, two by Jacob Plante and singles from Javyn Chukra and Jacob Shoults in their second games.

Final score in game two was 40-5 for the Falcons. Pritchard added Alex Kaufman, Isaac Plant and Jacob Shoults were defensive standouts in the victory.
The senior boys, meanwhile, played their first game against Prince Rupert, running in six tries — two from Jaren Brown, and singles from Jackson Briscoe, Matt Mercer, Isaac Shoults and Brandon Zimmer in a 30-0 routing of their opponents.
The Falcons, however, lost their second game versus Burns Lake 17-12 in what Pritchard said was a hard-fought game.
Shoults scored both tries and kicked a conversion for the Falcons in the defeat, with Jackson Briscoe and Shoults leading the defensive end in tackle count. Pritchard noted Matt Mercer was an offensive running threat in both games for the Falcons.
Next up for the Falcons is a trip to Kamloops for some games on Thursday, Oct. 18.
