The Cariboo Cougars came up one goal short at the Telus Cup.

Needing a win in their final round robin game against the Mississauga Rebels, the Cougars — with Williams Lake’s Trey Thomas and Daine Dubois helping lead the way for the team — mustered up a 2-2 tie despite a flurry of chances in the final minutes.

The tie left the Cougars with a one-win, two-loss and two-tie record, a point out of a final playoff spot for the provincial champions from Prince George.

The tie ends the season for the team, which saw Dubois and Thomas help lead the club throughout, on what was ultimately, a successful year that saw the team see 34 wins, five losses and one tie in its regular season campaign.

The final of the Telus Cup midget national championship goes today, Sunday April 30, at 3 p.m. in Prince George at the CN Centre between the Cape Breton Islanders and the Quebec Blizzard.
