Celebrate Bike to Work Week

Bike to Work and School Week is just around the corner.

Bike to Work and School Week is just around the corner, May 29 to June 4 this year, and we’re encouraging local residents to get out on their bikes!

Cycling is a great way to get exercise, get from A to B, reduce your emissions and traffic congestion, and just generally have a great time.

We all know that a healthy and active lifestyle is the best way to maintain both physical and mental health; we also all know that riding a bike is wicked fun. With incentives to ride and prizes up for grabs, participating in Bike to Work and School Week is a no brainer.

Just register via biketowork.ca/williams-lake and you can log-in to track your kilometers, calories burned, emissions saved, and be entered to win the provincial grand prize of a dream cycling trip for two on Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast. Locally we’ve got coffee shops and retailers on board to offer daily incentives (coffee and treat deals to fuel your ride) and prizes (post a selfie to be entered in the daily draw.

Rack up kilometers to win overall!). This year we’ve created challenge cards to foster a little friendly competition in the lakecity.

Think your business, friend group, family, band, non-profit organization, volunteer group, etc. can log more kilometers than somebody else? Call them out! Fill out the card, available at breatheasywilliamslake.org, and let’s get the whole town out on their bikes! Need a tune up?

Visit one of our fantastic local bike shops: Red Shreds Bike and Board Shed or Barking Spider Mountain Bikes. Need a bike? The Cariboo Chilcotin Conservation Society has a ‘Bikes for All’ program and connects prospective riders with a re-loved set of wheels.

As part of our community’s ‘Air Aware’ program, an initiative of the Williams Lake Air Quality Roundtable’s education component, we are excited to promote the joys of cycling as a means of improving the air we breathe. So get those pedals moving, take a breath of fresh air, and enjoy the ride!
