Biff’s Pond in Williams Lake will play host to a Family Fishing Weekend June 18.

A popular Father’s Day tradition in B.C. is returning for the 18th year June 16-18.

Family Fishing Weekend, as its called, is a way for families to spend quality time together while enjoying a popular outdoor past time.

In Williams Lake, Biff’s Ponds — located off of Dog Creek Road — will honour the tradition on June 18.

And, with the fishing license requirement waived for the weekend, families will have a break on cost, as well as access to free events held throughout the weekend in the province.

Family fishing weekend events have been planned throughout Northern B.C. where attendees learn about fishing gear, share freshwater and saltwater fishing tips, learning about environmental stewardship and the tradition of recreational fishing.

“Theses hands-on events are designed so everyone from beginner to expert has an opportunity to catch a fish,” said Owen Bird, province co-ordinator with the Family Fishing Society.

“Loaner rods, reels and tackle are provided for those who do not have their own gear.”

Events are supported by the Family Fishing Society and organized by Fish and Game clubs, the FFS of BC, the province of B.C., the Conservation Officer Service, municipalities, community groups and local businesses.

“We hold Family Fishing Weekend during Father’s Day weekend to offer kids, friends and families an activity they can enjoy together,” Bird said. “While some come to learn about fight and fishing, we also see many knowledgeable anglers who come to teach and share what they love about fishing. It’s great to see the passion for the sport being shared with the next generation.”
