Rain, hail, sunshine and all weather patterns in between, the Cariboo Archers’ annual Outdoor 3D Shoot saw it all during the weekend as competitors from throughout the region battled it out for supremacy.

Held in the woods behind the Williams Lake Sportsmen’s Association clubhouse on Bond Lake Road, participants walk an ‘A’ and a ‘B’ course firing shots from their designated stakes at foam animal targets — similar to a golf course — while collecting points depending on the accuracy of their shots.

“It was a great weekend,” said Cariboo Archer Al Campsall, who was manning the registration desk during the weekend due to a shoulder injury. “Questionable weather. Disappointing attendance. I guess that the threatening weather forecast did not help us much. True to form, a late Saturday afternoon torrential downpour with hail and rain, coupled with lightning, made for a very uncomfortable finish to some archers’ rounds.”

That said, Campsall noted many out-of-town participants lauded the Outdoor 3D Shoot, telling him it was the best archery shoot they had ever attended.

Additionally, Campsall said Cariboo Archer Dan Mobbs surprised no one when he was the only archer to hit every single spot on his targets to take home a fair chunk of change for his efforts.

Also taking home spot shoot winnings were Lee Jackman and Fred Streleoff.
