Shirley Delainey

April 15, 2004

Shirley Delainey

An only child, Shirley Delainey was born September 8, 1934 in Regina, Saskatchewan to Palmer and Myrtle McGowen.

In her early years she developed a great love for athletics, particularly in the sports of track and field and figure skating.

Shirley was married to Charles (Chuck) Delainey in 1953.

They moved from Vancouver to Williams Lake in 1956 to raise their children Douglas (deceased), Debbi and Gregory.

In 1963 the couple started Delainey’s Hardware, where Shirl showed her talents in the china and gift ware department, along with long-time friend Alice Getz, as well as many others.

Chuck and Shirley sold Delainey’s Hardware in 1993.

Shirley’s “personality plus” helped her continue in business by opening Celebrations Plus, a party planning business that she ran and loved for a number of fun-filled, successful years.

Shirley was always involved in church, community, sports and of course figure skating, where she was a Gold Test Judge for Skate Canada.

Shirley was taken from us on April 15 after losing a battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS).

Shirley will be sadly missed, but will remain in our thoughts and hearts forever. God Bless.
