Sheila Boate

Sheila Boate passed away suddenly January 23, 2006 in Kamloops. She was born September 26, 1933 in Kensington, South England to Robert and Bridgette MacNamara.

Sheila came to Canada in 1948 following her mother, who arrived earlier as a war bride to Robert Fettes, who served in the Canadian Forces liberation of Europe.

Sheila attended school briefly in Canada before going to work for Quaker Oats in Peterborough, Ontario.

She married Robert Clayton Boate in 1952 and raised a family of four sons and a daughter while residing in Peterborough and Oshawa, Ontario, where she spent many years as a psychiatric nurse.

Upon retirement, Sheila relocated to Williams Lake in 1986 to be near her children and grandchildren.

She was active in seniors’ activities including her great love the Seniors’ Choir. She was a volunteer with hospice, the Salvation Army and an advocate for the mentally ill.

Sheila is survived by her sister Sally (Andy Perie), sons Michael, Patrick (Luz), Daniel, Terrance; daughter Susan; grandchildren Michael, Jessica (Wayne), Camille, Erika, Meaghan, and James. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Joe, Scott, Matthew, Kristin and Jennifer, and by her long-term friend Nick.

Sheila inspired and enriched all of our lives and will be sadly missed.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 29 at 3 p.m. at the Seniors’ Activity Centre in Williams Lake.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Seniors’ Activity Centre Choir.
