July 21, 2008

Richard Netzell, 70, of Silverdale died of pneumonia July 21, 2008 at Harrison Hospital. He was born September 12, 1937, in Bella Coola, BC, to Oscar Netzell and Margaret Wick.

He married his wife, Sally, in 1982, and had a long career as a successful CPA. Survivors include his daughter, Tracy; son-in-law, Todd; and beloved grandson, Zachary Welch. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally.

In lieu of a wake, memorial donations may be made to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon. Contact the Doernbecher Foundation at 503-294-7101. Helping children was a cause close to his heart. Each Christmas, he made a generous donation to help a family in need at Doernbecher, where his daughter volunteered.

Richard was a loving husband, friend, father and grandfather who will be forever missed. Full of wisdom and humor, he always had just the right thing to say and he said it with love and without judgment. He had a heart of gold.

He enjoyed following the stock market and baseball stats, trips to Vegas and Tahoe, his dear friends, Mary and Ray, and had a special love for his grandson, Zach, whom he nicknamed ‘Mi-Boo’.

In 1976, in a parting tribute to his mother, Margaret, Richard wrote, “She cared beyond the comprehension of most human beings. She loved God and people around her with an insight quite often overlooked - those close to her understood. This was her gift to me - the richest legacy in the world.”

Dad, how appropriate and meaningful those words are to me right now. Thank you for imparting on me your wonderful legacy and for giving me such support and love. I love you so much. I cherish my memories of you and our time together.

We all miss you every day.
