June 8, 1927 -

December 28, 2008

Edward Romeo Gagné, born in Maillardville, BC June 8, 1927, passed away in Williams Lake, BC on December 28, 2008. He will be greatly missed by his family.

Everyone has a story in their lives, and we want to share a bit of our Dad’s with all of you.

He was a gifted musician, self taught. He played the accordion most of his life. He was a handsome, well dressed man, who wore tailor-made suits, and his shoes were always polished. When he married our mom, he made his own wine, milked his own goat for the baby’s milk, baked his own bread, made his own soap, rebuilt his own cars, was a chef for the railway, was a member of the church youth group, worked in a gun factory during the war and climbed inside fighter planes to install guns. He was a truck driver for Labatts for 30 years and then worked for MacLeods Hardware in 100 Mile House until he retired.

He was a fantastic dancer. He camperized a VW bus single-handedly for his family of 7. He raised 5 children and several other kids through the years who needed a place to call home.

He lost his soul-mate of 52 years on August 31, 2004, and decided to sell their dream home, which the two of them built together, so he could live with my husband and I, Brian & Marilyn Downing, in Williams Lake.

A Celebration of Life is planned for June 2009 in Williams Lake, BC.
