Following on the heels of a successful inaugural event held at the beginning of May, Williams Lake’s newly-formed Young Professionals Network is hosting a pub trivia night on June 1.

Formed at the end of April, the network aims to bring like-minded individuals together in a social capacity and build a sense of community for young working professionals, said one of the group’s organizers Lauren Bernard.

“The idea for this group originally formed around the issue of local industries not being able to retain young workers,” Bernard said. “Young people are moving here for work experience after post-secondary, but if they aren’t able to settle down and make friends in the community, the town will ultimately continue to see the same issue of young professionals leaving. We want to change the mentality that it’s difficult to meet people outside of work in Williams Lake.”

Since its formation, the group has already seen a high level of interest from the community.

It has a large following on social media and 70 young professionals attended the first event — a Bowl and Meet held at Cariboo Bowling Lanes.

The pub trivia night will be held at Oliver Street Bar and Grill, Bernard said, noting more information about the event and future events can be found on their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/wlypn.

Anyone interested in becoming a part of the organizing committee, or have questions for the group, can e-mail them at contact.wlypn@gmail.com.
