Update: Police determine yesterday’s suspicious occurrence a misunderstanding

Police have determined Thursday’s suspicious occurence involving a 12-year-old student was a misunderstanding

Update:

Possible attempted abduction of 12-year-old boy is now considered unfounded, say police.

The vehicle that stopped had a couple inside arguing. The driver stopped the car near the 12-year-old boy and the male in the car got out and walked away in an angry state, walking past the boy, said Staff Sgt. Del Byron Friday afternoon.

“There was never any intent to abduct the boy,” Byron said. “We appreciate the public’s help in relation to this investigation.”

Original story:

Police are looking for more information after a 12-year-old student was frightened by a group of men in a car yesterday.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Del Byron said the boy was walking alone southbound on his way home from Lake City Secondary Columneetza campus at 1045 Western Ave. on Thursday, May 25 at about 3:47 p.m. when an older four-door car with a flat roof and hood pulled up beside him.

“A male jumped out of the rear of the car. The student ran to the nearest residence for safety,” Byron said.

Byron said the males inside the vehicle are described as being 40 to 50 years old, unkept, dirty, and one male had dark long hair, noting the males did not say anything, did not try and grab the student, and no physical contact was made.

The matter is under investigation. If anyone witnessed this incident they are asked to call the RCMP.
