Williams Lake RCMP rushed to contain an area of South Lakeside after receiving a report of an armed robbery at Canadian Tire Thursday afternoon.

Insp. Jeff Pelley said police were called at about 4 p.m. after a suspect pulled a knife and threatened violence against a store employee when he was confronted about a theft.

Pelley said the officers quickly contained a portion of South Lakeside and caught a suspect matching the description of the Canadian Tire robbery suspect as he fled into the Winner’s store near Walmart.

“He was arrested without incident,” said Pelley, who was also on scene to assist. “It’s a good result and seems to be an isolated incident.”

Charges of theft, robbery with violence, possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public and uttering threats will be forwarded to Crown for consideration.

The suspect is in custody. Pelley said he is known to police.

Earlier in the day police also arrested a youth offender suspected of breaking into Sushi California and stealing a quantity of cash.
