A memorial is growing at the site of a tragic vehicle accident near Horsefly which claimed the life of a Williams Lake teen Saturday.

Families and friends are grieving the tragic loss of a Lake City Secondary School Grade 12 student.

Tyler Tenning, 17, died at the scene of a single vehicle rollover on Horsefly Road early Saturday morning, while two other passengers were injured and another remained unharmed.

Emergency crews were called to the scene, located three kilometres west of Horsefly on the Horsefly Road, just before 1 a.m. Saturday morning.

District Advisory NCO Cpl. Madonna Saunderson said when police arrived on scene they found a Toyota Tacoma pickup had left the roadway, rolled and collided with a BC Hydro pole. A collision re-constructionist was called to the scene to assist the Williams Lake RCMP and BC Hydro crews were also on hand to replace the damaged pole, which shut off power to 579 residents in the Horsefly area.

“The investigation is ongoing, however, at this time, police believe alcohol to be a causal factor in the crash,” Saunderson said.

Acting School District 27 superintendent Mark Wintjes acknowledged the loss is being deeply felt by students and staff.

“On behalf of the Board of Education and School District 27, our condolences go out to the families affected by this tragedy,” Wintjes said.

“Students and staff will remember the positive impact this student had on our communities and as a school district we will continue to work with students and staff to support them in this most difficult time.”

Tenning was an avid mountain biker who mentored other younger youth in the sport on his own and also through his work with the Sprockids Boys and Girls Club of Williams Lake and District after-school biking program. He was a top player in the Williams Lake Minor Hockey Association’s midget division, along with having played competitive fastball in the Williams Lake Minor Fastball Association.
