Three highways near Quesnel have been put under travel advisory this evening (Jan. 3), with drivers urged not to travel unless absolutely necessary.

Drive BC has issued a travel advisory for Highway 97 between Williams Lake and Prince George.

The advisory is in effect on 176 kilometres of the highway, between Mountain House Road north of Williams Lake, to Kolling Road south of Prince George. Drive BC reports extremely slippery and rough conditions, and says sanding is currently in progress on the route.

A travel advisory is in effect for Highway 26 (the Barkerville Highway) from Quesnel to Wells, with extreme slippery and rough conditions.

And the Nazko Highway from Bouchie Lake to Nazko is also under a travel advisory for the same extremely slippery and rough conditions.

Drive BC indicates all three routes are in the process of being sanded.

Temperatures in the Quesnel area are predicted to hover around zero degrees Celsius this evening, with more snow or rain showers predicted. Jan. 4 will see more of the same, with a high of -1 degree.
