A development permit application for a new building at Prosperity Ridge was received by city council Tuesday evening at its regular meeting.

Platform Properties said the new 8,320 square foot building will be constructed next to Bosley’s by Pet Valu and house four new businesses.

“We are in the development permit stage and have one tenant confirmed so far,” said Alice Lee, with construction and development at Platform Properties.

Lee told the Tribune she could not say who the tenant is but could confirm it is a retailer.

“We have not had a new building for a while, it’s exciting,” she added.

In a report to council, development services technician Hasib Nadvi noted staff is in favour of the application, with the exception of the rear elevation design of the building.

Nadvi suggested council direct staff to work with the application to incorporate architectural details to add interest and “better articulation” to the rear side of the building facing Prosperity Way to create a more welcoming facade as opposed to the proposed “back of the building” design.

Now that the development permit application was received by council it will undergo public notification tentatively set for June 5 and come back to council for further consideration on June 20.

Upon final approval, construction would begin late summer, Lee said.
