A boat on fire caused quite a scene along Highway 97 and Signal Point Road Friday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called just before 2 p.m. to the highway where a motorist travelling southbound was able to pull over and detach the boat and trailer from his truck before the flames completely engulfed the boat.

The motorist was headed to Quesnel Lake.

Cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but was believed to have started in the battery compartment.

The highway was closed for about a half hour, with all traffic rerouted onto Broadway Avenue South.
