Smoke haze visible from Williams Lake due to wildfire in Tweedsmuir North Provincial Park
Smoke haze may continue to be visible on the weekend in Williams Lake, Quesnel and the northern half of the Cariboo-Chilcotin region from a wildfire burning near Eutsuk Lake in Tweedsmuir North Provincial Park, the Cariboo Fire Centre confirmed Friday.
"Fire activity picked up on Friday with the hot, dry weather. Further growth and continued smoke in the Cariboo is expected due to weather and wind conditions," fire information officer Greig Bethel said in a press release.
Additionally, the Cariboo Fire Centre/Wildfire Management Branch crews and equipment are actioning a small wildfire southeast of 150 Mile House in the UBC-Alex Fraser Research Forest/Knife Creek area, with help from research forest personnel. The lightning-caused holdover fire has been estimated at one hectare in size.
Smoke is visible from Highway 97, but the fire is not expected to grow and is currently not threatening any interface areas.
