Suspect remains in custody awaiting next court appearance on Lac la Hache stabbing

Williams Lake and 100 Mile House RCMP get charge approval on Lac la Hache stabbing.

A 20-year-old Williams Lake man remains in custody following a violent incident that occurred in the Lac la Hache area on Wednesday, March 29.

Jesse Dean Meade has been charged with one count each of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and uttering threats. He has also been charged with five counts of breach of probation. Meade remains in custody with his next court date slated for May 10, said Cpl. Madonna Saunderson, District Advisory NCO (media relations) for North District.

According to a previous news release, Williams Lake RCMP were called to Cariboo Memorial Hospital at approximately 11:45 p.m. on March 29 after a 29-year-old man had attended seeking treatment for a stab wound to his upper torso. After conducting an initial investigation, members located Meade at a residence in Williams Lake and arrested him without incident.

Police said preliminary investigation indicated the incident occurred earlier in the evening in the Lac La Hache area on Highway 97.

The victim suffered serious injuries but is believed to be recovering.

Police said the men were known to each other and that the incident was not a random attack.

The investigation included RCMP members from both 100 Mile House and Williams Lake detachments.
