Volunteers like Riley Windeler are out in full force today at McDonald’s in Williams Lake to support Ronald McDonald House Charities.

“It’s a great place,” Windeler said of Ronald McDonald House, as he worked the drive-through line Wednesday morning of the fast food restaurant. “They help out a lot.”

The Horsefly resident was born with a form of short-limbed dwarfism called Hypochondroplasia and said throughout his childhood he has accessed Ronald McDonald House periodically in Vancouver and Baltimore.

As an adult Windeler, who grew up in Horsefly, has been open about sharing the challenges and opportunities he’s faced in his life as a little person.

“The main thing is we may be smaller and not physically the same but we can still do the same things with adaptations as everyone else, and we want to be treated the same as everyone else,” Windeler said.

Windeler is currently working on a children’s book about a boy with dwarfism who competes in track and field.

On McHappy Day, $1 from every Big Mac, hot McCafé beverage or Happy Meal sold will be donated to RMHC. Customers can also make a direct donation to the charity on McHappy Day.
