The 25th annual Ducks Unlimited fundraising dinner and auction is coming up at the Elks Hall on Saturday, April 2.

Auction items this year include a West Coast salmon-fishing charter, wildlife prints, decoys, sculptures and much more.

Tickets to the banquet include a one-year membership and subscription to Conservator magazine and are available from committee members, Chilcotin Guns, or directly from the local DUC office by calling 250-398-7028.

Ducks Unlimited has been active for more than 40 years working alongside landowners, governments and other non-profit groups to promote conservation of wetlands and critical waterfowl habitat.

Nature Centre banquet

The annual Scout Island Nature Centre banquet will be held on Friday evening, April 8 at St. Andrew’s United Church Hall. Tickets are available from The Open Book or from members of the Williams Lake Field Naturalists.

The fundraiser marks the 40th anniversary celebration for the Nature Trust of B.C. Dr. Rob Butler, noted B.C. biologist, and Carl MacNaughton, acting land manager for the Nature Trust, will provide a short illustrated presentation on the conservation of lands in B.C. by the Nature Trust since 1971.

As guest speaker Butler’s talk is titled “Optimism for the Future.”

“If there is one heroic deed in your life, let it be to save wild places,” Butler says.

TRU CSI night

Thompson Rivers University is hosting an open house,  CSI murder mystery night, on April 7 from 7 to 8:30 p.m..

Participants will tour the various departments in the university picking up clues to solve a cold-case murder.

Participants can come alone and be teamed up with partners or make up their own investigative teams of three or four people.

Walk for Harmony

The Williams Lake Walk for Harmony starts from Boitanio Park at 11:45 a.m. on March 29 and will wind through the city ending at the Gibraltar Room for refreshments. For more information contact Eva Navrot, CMHA’s multicultural co-ordinator, at 250-302-9119.

Autism  awareness walk

World Autism Awareness Day will be marked in Williams Lake with a Walk for Autism on Saturday, April 2.

The three to five kilometer walk will start at 11 a.m. from the Cariboo Chilcotin Child Development Centre on Second Avenue, says event co-ordinator Florence Gonyer.

The walk will finish up back at the CDC with refreshments and activities for children, says Gonyer, the aboriginal supported child development worker for the Cariboo Chilcotin Metis Association and co-ordinator of the autism and other related disabilities parent support group.

Bowl for Kids Sake

The Big Brothers and Big Sisters annual Bowl for Kids Sake is coming up April 9 and 10 at Cariboo Bowling Lanes.

The theme this year is Come Join the Circus. Prices are awarded for all sorts of bowling skills and antics including best costumes.
