The St. Andrew’s Church congregation is inviting the public to join them in a unique walk for peace Saturday, May 6 on World Labyrinth Day.

On World Labyrinth Day people will be walking as one at 1 p.m. on labyrinths around the world, says Mary Trott who was part of the group who created the large Chartres labyrinth on the pavement of the parking lot behind St. Andrew’s Church.

A labyrinth is not a maze, Trott explains. People can’t get lost. In a labyrinth there is only one path in and one path out.

For centuries, she explains that churches and other organizations have incorporated labyrinths on their grounds as tools for walking meditation. Small hand labyrinths also exist.

“I am sure we all agree that this year in particular, there is a strong need for this kind of expression of unity, and we invite everyone in the community, young and old, no matter what their belief or cultural origin, to come and walk with us, at 1 p.m. local time, as an expression of our wish for peace in the world,” Trott says.
