From assembling a small teepee, to learning a hip hop dance, to running remote control cars wearing glasses that distort vision to mimic impaired driving the nine teams participating in the Race For Kids Saturday had their work cut out for them.

And to make things a little tougher the competitors were only given a set of mixed up clues to guide them to the 10 locations around the downtown core where the challenges and puzzles were set up.

They all started out from Herb Gardner Park with a warm-up session and review of the rules before beginning the race to the various destinations such as the St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Boitanio Park, Boys and Girls Club to complete the challenges at each station. Teams could make their way to the check-in points in any order, winding up back at Herb Gardner Park finish line.

The Yabba-Dabba-Do team finished the race in first place followed by the Think Pink team in second place and the Williams Lake and District Credit Union Supermoms in third place.

The annual Run For Kids novelty race where teams dress in colourful costumes for the event raises funds for the Boys and Girls Club of Williams Lake and District.

While final figures are not yet tabulated, Boys and Girls Club operations co-ordinator Stefanie Hendrickson estimates the total raised will be just under $23,000 minus event costs.

She said just shy of $14,000 was raised between team sponsorships and fundraising, plus another $9,000 was donated by Tolko, the title sponsor of the event.

The individual fundraiser was Georgina Chipman who raised $1,602. to win a WestJet travel voucher.
