Fly fishing enthusiasts take note. There will be a free screening of the film Surface, about fly fishing in the Cariboo taking place at the Gibraltar Room Thursday, June 1. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the film starts at 6:30 p.m.

This free event will feature discussion with industry professionals, a sizzle reel, and the feature film followed by a reception with refreshments, says Beth Holden, the city’s events and marketing co-ordinator.

“Please join us to celebrate the wild beauty of the Cariboo.”

The City of Williams Lake is working with the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism Association (CCCTA) and the Cariboo Reputation Recovery Committee (CRRC) to present the event.

Surface, produced by Fly Fusion Films and Vantage Point Media House, follows Derek Bird of Fly Fusion Magazine and Ross Purnell of Fly Fisherman Magazine deep into the Cariboo.

They travel past the rugged mountains to a nearly inaccessible glacial stream where they find some of the best trout waters on the planet.

With clean waters filled with fish and wildlife, and stunning scenery, this film captures something much beyond the nature and the sport —it captures the journey, the bond, and the dream.

Holden says the Cariboo Reputation Recovery Committee was formed in 2014 when Cariboo communities, the CCCTA, and stakeholders came together to continue to promote one of the region’s finest assets, the outdoors.

The Cariboo region is internationally recognized as a playground for anyone who enjoys the outdoors, boasting beautiful rivers, lakes and rugged wilderness, along with diverse landscapes, lush forest, and plentiful waterways teeming with wildlife.
