The Cedar City Museum and Info Centre in Likely opened its doors on the May long weekend and will be open weekends until opening full time when the summer season officially begins on July 1.
The delightful little museum is located in Cedar Point (Class C) Provincial Park and features displays, artifacts and photographs from the Cedar City, Keithley and Quesnel Forks gold rush boom towns to more recent hydraulic mining operations and logging ventures in and around Likely.
Displays are set up in a progressive circular walk starting from 1830 to the present.
A unique feature of the museum is an old-time little theatre where videos are shown.
Last weekend the video featured footage from the early hydraulic operation of the now closed Boullion Pit Mine.
There is also a large relief board on one wall with buttons to push that will light up and pinpoint the various lakes, river systems and historical locations in and around Likely.
Sally Bland and Pat Baron are the key interpreters providing all sorts of interesting additional information for visitors on weekends.
Wandering through Cedar Point Park right next door visitors will find various large pieces of equipment used in mining and industrial operations in the area.
The Cedar City Museum will be open Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. through the end of May and June.
Starting July 1 the museum will be open seven days a week until Sept. 30 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
