Liz Twan photo Under the direction and guidance of teacher Louise Harry, every child in the Dog Creek School made a star blanket, traditionally used when fasting, it also gives comfort in times of loss or tragedy. The blankets are a cultural symbol. Harry has made 76 blankets that she has given away. She had the idea in December to have every child in the school make one. The students, following tradition, will be giving their blankets to someone special. Some have picked their parents or grandparents. Here Grade 8 student Damian Harry and Madison Baptiste hold up Damian’s blanket. The blankets will be displayed in Botanio Park on National Aboriginal Day, June 21, as all the students from the school are attending the celebration.
