Concert tonight for Operation Smile

Two bands and a childrens choir will perform in Williams Lake this week to help raise funds for Operation Smile.

Performances will be given by the Angel keys Children’s Choir, 100 Mile House Band and the Perfect Match.

The concert takes place tonight, April 19 at Cariboo Bethel Church starting at 7 p.m.

“We will also have a silent auction to generate funds to help sponsor Operation Smile to do voluntary cleft lip and palate surgeries in third world countries,” says Stefan de Swardt.

He says the concert is free but they will accept donations for the cause.

He says a single cleft lip/palate surgery in a developing country costs $240 but any donation is welcome and eligible for tax deductible receipts.

Operation Smile Williams Lake is a group of people from all walks of life who have a passion to help children with cleft lip and palates in developing countries.

“We do not participate directly with outreaches/operations but we do help with raising funds to support the Operation Smile volunteer team to do these procedures and help children who do not have acces to essential services like cleft lip/palate surgery,” de Swardt says.

To date he says the local group has held several fundraisers and sponsored 18 surgeries.

People who would like to help with the fundraising efforts which also include penny drives at local banks can contact Stefan de Swardt at  250-267-7310 or Bel Hume at  250-398-8740 or Gabriel Zamorano at 250-267-8497.
